Asteria: OrganizinG IG-LIVE Event

It was such a mixed-feelings experience to be organizing my very first digital event!
For the FutureProof: Personal Development Planning class, my classmates and I were given the task to organize a digital fashion event from scratch. We decided to create an event that could give benefits to the audiences. So we created ASTERIA.

ASTERIA ‘The Hustle’ is an event organized by International Fashion Business students from Raffles College of Higher Education. The term “ASTERIA” is derived from Greek mythology which means “Goddess” or “Dreams” as we aim that through this event people could be inspired to continue in thriving and achieving their dreams in the fashion world. The event was held on the 13th June 2020, from 2 pm to 4 pm (GMT+8) on Instagram LIVE, targeting young adults, students, and fashion enthusiasts.
ASTERIA invited five experienced speakers from different sections of the fashion industry (blogger, business owner, etc). They are Lisa Teng from Lisa Teng Studios, Aurellia Joyann Trudy from Trudy, Shannon Lee from Shirt Number White, Amos Ananda Yeo from Amos Ananda and also Influencer Claudia Novira, as they shared their interesting knowledge and memorable experience throughout their journey in the fashion industry based on the area they expertise. This way the audiences are benefited from advice and understandings of how the industry works as well as what skill set is required in achieving their main goals.
For this event, I got to plan out the branding concept for the marketing collaterals. Gradient colors are chosen to interpret the limitless spectrum of dreams. The font of "Asteria" is created as such to represent the greek language aspects of the word. Furthermore, I created the event proposals to be distributed to sponsorships and speakers, the press releases and distributed them to numbers of media. These media include Vulture Magazine, Gaya Magazine, Women's Weekly Magazine, Teenage Magazine, and many more. I also designed a social media poster for Claudia Novira as one of the event speakers.

The event was previously planned to be held on the 6th of June. However, the progress of the event started very slow in the first three weeks and this pressured us with no choice but to postpone it. We then begin to push ourselves even more and we're getting better each week. We begin by developing the ideas and goals of this event, listing the possible speakers candidates, budgeting, and collecting every information that might be useful throughout the journey. We planned all the marketing strategies and create posters and other content for the Instagram feed. We also developed the event proposal and sent it to the speakers and other parties. From here everything was running just fine.
However, another waiting game strikes when we got not a single reply from these speakers candidates for about three weeks. We started to get anxious as the event might be a total failure if we do not get any speakers as soon as possible. On the other hand, we put our faith high that we believe there will be a miracle for all the effort we have given to this event. And yes, from expecting two speakers but instead five speakers are willing to join and support the event. It was unbelievable. We could not hide our excitement! The whole team cheered together.
The other nerve-wracking moment when it was a few days left but we still have no one registered for the event. We also did plan a giveaway to attract the attention of the potential audiences, but just a few were attracted to join. ASTERIA’s Facebook page and advertisement that we created did not affect us at all. We pushed more and more content on Instagram but nothing seems to work well. At this point, what we can do was just keep on praying that it will go well.
The day came and we were very nervous yet excited at the same time. Although there were several unavoidable technical difficulties during the live event but other than that it went very well as we planned it to be. The speakers are shared a lot of valuable knowledge and the viewers are very enthusiastic.
The event gathered a total of over 150 followers, with up to 180 likes per post, and 210 viewers on the IG Live from different nations. It was beyond our expectations and target!

Overall it was such an amazing experience to be organizing a digital event. The process really teaches me that anything done wholeheartedly will be gaining a similar amount of results. Do not panic and have high faith in your work and passion.
