“What do I wanna be in the future?”

“What career will I take?”

ree

These questions used to haunt my night. As I mentioned in the previous blog, I used to be very puzzled about which career I should thrive in. The word “used to” is intentionally placed because now I knew what I am interested in and brings joy to me.

I want to be a Fashion Stylist or/and Content Strategist!

Many said that education is the most important factor. But is it only education? What are other factors that affect me in achieving my future career?

So, I decided to do some research on my future career path and here’s what I found.

Build experience

In order to work in this industry, employers are more interested to see evidence of work experience, instead of learning. Internship experiences in the fashion industry is a good start line! Build up your portfolio and touch up your CV. The key to an internship is to develop your connection in the industry so they can recommend you to other business partners. It also gives you the opportunity to develop and sharpen beneficial on-the-job knowledge that you may not have acquired before.

Don’t be shy

Never be shy to ask for anything. Nothing is impossible. You never know when the opportunity to work with great names will come. Do confident self-promotion and explore in-depth of the industry. You can also ask your successful mentors for referrals and new clients as you build your own business.

Stay updated of the Fashion world

If you are determined to achieve a career in this industry, you need to stay updated in this industry. Know the ins and outs of the fashion world. Keep up with the latest trend, visiting fashion shows and expose yourself to new styles. Social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest are great for this since they’re accessible on your phone and make it easy to save and share imagery. Recognize the pattern of your audience is also a key point in this industry.

These are basically key tips I need to work on in order to achieve my dream career. My main goal is to work in a famous magazine company, such as i-D Magazine or DAZED Magazine. I would be more than happy when my creation is published on the cover page of these magazines. Other than that, I also wish to be working in the marketing division in highly recognized brands. As a Bachelor's degree student, I am determined to explore every opportunity and sharpen my knowledge before I graduated. Appreciating this moment by joining competitions and also volunteer in any events, to also broaden my connection. So, by the time I graduate, I will be ready for the on-ground working world.

Regards,

ACW
